GP Situation in Murrurundi
Last modified: November 6, 2009 - 1:24 PM
The Murrurundi Chamber of Commerce and Upper Hunter Shire Council are continuing efforts to attract a general practitioner to Murrurundi to replace Dr William Redmayne, who has served the local community for more than twenty years.
Discussions continue with the Hunter Division of General Practitioners and the Rural Doctors Network. One interested doctor has visited the town and met with representatives of local organisations and Hunter New England Health. At least two other doctors have expressed interest in the position.
Mayor of Upper Hunter Shire Council, Cr Lee Watts, said that recent interest in the position is very encouraging. "The combined efforts of the local community and Council will be needed to develop a package to recruit the right person to Murrurundi" Cr Watts said.
The Chamber of Commerce is working with Council to develop a package to ensure that recruitment is successful. This includes options for accommodation and suitable doctors rooms. Interested community members who are willing to assist with this task can contact Angus Sevil 0428 220866 or Council's Murrurundi Community Services Officer, Heather Ranclaud, on 65466024.
