Have Your Say - Bickham Coal Project

Last modified: November 4, 2009 - 2:29 PM

The Bickham Coal Company proposes to develop a new open cut coal mine between the New England Highway and the Pages River, about 15 kilometres south of Murrurundi.

If approved, this coal mine would extract up to 36 million tonnes of coal from two adjacent open cut pits over a period of up to 25 years at a maximum rate of 2 million tonnes per year.

Due to concerns about the potential water impacts, the company was required to undertake a full Water Resource Assessment of the proposed mine and prepare a draft life-of-mine Water Management Plan.

The company has now completed this work, and has submitted it to the Department of Planning.
