A Guide to Rural Residential LivingLast modified: August 21, 2008 - 10:50 AM
A free Resource Guide tailored especially to the needs of landowners on small farms and acreages is now available for Upper Hunter Shire residents. The Guide brings together 100s of information products and sources to assist landholders understand and address the range of opportunities and challenges that a rural lifestyle offers. The wide range of content includes keeping chickens and livestock, dealing with neighbour's dogs, storing water, growing your own food, controlling weeds and feral animals, or recreating your own personal patch of the Australian bush. The Guide is the first time that so many resources have been brought together in one easily accessible, central location for landowners living in the Upper Hunter Shire. Developing the Guide has been an initiative of local councils collaborating under the Hunter and Central Coast Regional Environmental Management Strategy (HCCREMS), with funding support provided by the Hunter-Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority. Mayor Cr Barry Rose said that `Living on a rural residential property is becoming an increasingly popular lifestyle choice. Being able to enjoy peace and quiet, open space and the natural environment, whilst still being close to large towns and cities, are key factors driving this trend. The Resource Guide has been developed in response to the increasing demand for information by these large numbers of ‘tree-changers' moving to the area'.
The Resource Guide can be accessed at http://www.ruralresidentialliving.com.au/. A limited number of free CD versions are also available for Upper Hunter Shire Council offices. Contact details |
