History of Scone

Visitors with a passion for history, or who want to unlock a mystery about their family history, will find the Scone and Upper Hunter Historical Society's Museum and Research Centre a delight.
The museum tells the story of the people of the Upper Hunter, with various theme displays showing how life has changed through the years. From the days of the horse and buggy through to the motor car.
The Sergeant's Residence Research Centre next to the museum is the ideal place to investigate local or personal history. Researchers from the Society have established a microfiche library of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and a complete collection of The Scone Advocate since it was first printed in 1887. The Centre also features old diaries which make for an interesting and often touching insight into the lives of people who laid the foundations of modern day Scone and its surroundings.
The Museum and Research Centre are located in Kingdon Street, Scone. The Scone Historical Museum is open every Sunday from 2.30pm to 4.40pm and every Wednesday from 10am to 2.30pm. The Sergeant's residence is also open each Wednesday from 10am to 2.30pm. Visitors can arrange to have the Centre opened out of hours if they have a matter of interest to pursue while passing through. Contact (02) 6545 1218 or (02) 6545 1368.
